Arriving in Kuala Lumpur

there is Nothing easier!

Arriving in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia couldn’t be easier! The Kuala Lumpur airport is 45 km away from the city. Once you arrive you have to walk a little bit in the terminal, and then you have four possibilities to get to the KL city center; Grab (similar to Uber), taxi, bus, or KLIA Ekspres (this is the name of the train, not a misspelling). The fastest way is probably by KLIA Ekspres. The KLIA Ekspres train runs every 30 minutes to KL Sentral Station, from where you can travel to your destination by MRT.

Just take care, because, besides the KLIA Ekspres, there is also the “normal” KLIA. Both cost the same, but only the KLIA Ekspres goes non-stop to KL Sentral.

We decided to go with another option and haven’t experienced the KLIA train yet. Maybe we will later in our travels.

Because of traffic and rush hour, we believe that the most comfortable and fastest way to get to the KL city center is with KLIA Ekspres.

That is, of course, if you are not traveling with huge golf travel bags like we are!

Here is the timetable and prices for the KLIA Ekspres:

A little advice

BTW: if you are planning to explore KL with public transportation, get yourself a Touch n’Go card upon arrival. You can top up if needed at each station, and you also save a few Ringgits on each ride.

The card costs 20 MYR and 15 MYR of it is already a credit.

The next possibility to get from the airport to the city is by taxi. The ride to KL Sentral is around 120 MYR.

A less expensive way to travel from the airport is with Grab. If you have already a SIM Card just download the Grab app if you haven’t done that already.

Depending on the traffic and size of the car, the ride is between 65 MYR (JustGrab) and 180 MYR (GrabCar Executive). Note that the toll fee is not included and is an additional 10 MYR.

We like Grab very much because the App shows us the price in advance, and the handling is fast and easy. That is our honest opinion, we don’t get paid for writing this!

Update: we also took the bus from the airport to the city center. At 12 MYR (about US Dollar 2,90), it is a real bargain. However, depending on the traffic, it can take a little longer to get to KL Sentral Station.

Extra Bonus

Our ride to the city was fast and pleasant. Our driver was very talkative and told us all about his favorite places in Kuala Lumpur, as well as Malaysia. So, not only did we have a good transfer from the airport to our accommodation, but we also got some inspiration.
