Welcome to Slow Travel Europe

Hello and welcome — or should we say Willkommen, Bienvenue, Benvenuto, and Hoş geldiniz!
Europe has always held a special place in our hearts. Long before we hit the road in our campervan Alba, we explored the continent in all kinds of ways — from classic city breaks to island escapes. Living in Nürnberg, Germany, gave us the perfect base to get to know Europe beyond the usual postcard highlights.

Over the years, we’ve collected countless memories across this diverse and beautiful continent. And now, with Alba — our new van — we’re ready to discover even more. From coastal roads to mountain passes, we’re embracing the freedom to go where the wind takes us (and where the parking is good!).
Europe is our home, but now we’re seeing it with new eyes — And yes, we made a video from Bologna to kick off our campervan journey — watch it here!

We’re just getting started — and we’re beyond excited.

Our Slow Travel Began in Turkey

With Menekse’s Turkish roots, Turkey was the perfect first stop. From family time in peaceful Akbük to exploring the chaotic beauty of Istanbul, we soaked in every moment. We wandered historic neighborhoods, indulged in authentic Turkish cuisine (no Döner stands here, just the real deal!), and shared all our discoveries in our Turkey blog.

Don’t miss our guides to Istanbul and how to use the Museum Pass!

Poland: A Country We Had Dreamed About Visiting

Poland had been on our travel wish list for years, and we are so happy that we finally made it here. As soon as we crossed the border, we realised there was so much more to discover than we expected.

Our Polish adventure started in the beautiful Riesengebirge (Karkonosze Mountains), where we explored stunning landscapes and enjoyed the quieter side of the country. From there, we continued to historic towns like Świdnica and vibrant cities like Poznań.

What we love about Poland is the incredible variety. Beautiful nature, fascinating history, delicious food, welcoming people, and even amazing golf opportunities make this a destination we definitely want to explore more.

Explore Golf in Europe

If you’re as obsessed with golf as we are, Europe is full of bucket-list courses and hidden gems. From windswept Scottish links to Portugal’s sunny fairways and cozy 9-holers tucked into alpine villages, we’re on a mission to play them all — with Alba leading the way. Curious where we’ve teed off? Check out our Golf in Europe page for detailed reviews, stories, and upcoming rounds.

Europe Essential Facts

Where is Europe?

Europe is a continent located entirely in the Northern Hemisphere and mostly in the Eastern Hemisphere. It borders Asia to the east and is surrounded by the Arctic Ocean, the Atlantic Ocean, and the Mediterranean Sea.

How do you get to Europe?

From North America and Australia, most travelers fly into major hubs like London, Frankfurt, Paris, Amsterdam, or Rome. Budget airlines and an efficient train system make onward travel within Europe a breeze.

When is the best time to visit Europe?

Spring (April to June) and autumn (September to November) are ideal, with mild weather and fewer crowds. We’ve traveled in all seasons and love Europe’s charm year-round, but shoulder seasons are our favorite.

Top Highlights of Europe?

From Istanbul’s bazaars to Rome’s ruins, Parisian cafés to the fjords of Norway — the diversity is incredible. Pick what speaks to your soul: culture, food, nature, or history — there’s something for everyone.

How long should you spend in Europe?

We live here and still haven’t seen it all! If you’re visiting, we suggest skipping whirlwind trips and focusing on one or two regions for 1–2 weeks. Go deeper, not wider. That’s the magic of slow travel.

Where to stay in Europe?

Whether you’re into boutique hotels, cozy B&Bs, or rustic campervan camping like us, options are endless. Alba’s our rolling home — but we’ve also found charming stays in towns big and small.
