Our Golf and Wellness Stay at Ortner’s Resort
We spent three unforgettable nights at Ortner’s Resort in Bad Füssing– a dreamy mix of golf, gourmet dining, and wellness bliss. With two scenic rounds on nearby courses and plenty of pampering in between, Ortner’s hit that sweet spot between active and indulgent. From steaming thermal pools to stylish rooms and slow dinners that turned into memories, this was the golf getaway we didn’t know we needed.
A Warm Welcome and a Suite to Remember
Upon arriving at Ortner’s Resort, we were greeted with a friendly smile and a voucher for a Welcome Drink on the lovely terrace of the OZ Bar, overlooking the only natural cold-water pool at the hotel.
The atmosphere was relaxing, and it set the tone for our weekend. The friendly receptionist gave us a personal tour, showing us the bar, the elegant restaurant, and the expansive spa area – all beautifully designed and very inviting.

We stayed in the Roederer double room in the Wappen House, one of the resort’s newly renovated rooms, which felt like a perfect blend of modern comfort and traditional Bavarian charm.

The bed was incredibly comfortable, and the spacious rain shower was a highlight – one press of a button and it turned on at the perfect temperature. It’s that kind of detail that makes a wonderful room even better!

It’s worth noting that Ortner’s has been selected as one of the “101 Best Hotels in Germany 2025” – a distinction awarded by the Swiss Institute for Service & Leadership Excellence. It was easy to see why.

The OZ Bar became our little post-golf ritual. Whether sipping drinks on the terrace or enjoying a glass of champagne inside at the bar, the ambiance was just right for our golf getaway.

The hotel team was warm and welcoming, always ready with a smile. And watching James try to decode Bavarian dialects was an added bonus that had us both laughing.
Culinary Moments to Savor
On our first night, we spent an incredible three hours at dinner without even noticing the time. The combination of buffet starters and desserts with à la carte mains created a dining experience that was both relaxed and refined.

We were thrilled to find vegetarian options that were just as carefully prepared as the rest of the menu. And the home-baked bread? Absolutely addictive. James especially enjoyed the house-brewed OZ beer – smooth and very drinkable. The wine list was another delightful surprise- if you’re a wine lover, you’ll have plenty to explore!

Let’s talk about breakfast — because Ortner’s really knows how to start your day right! Their generous buffet is a celebration of regional and fresh products, with something for every taste. From an impressive selection of cheeses and meats to crunchy mueslis, fresh salads, nuts, and honey, it’s all there. We especially loved the little vegan corner, as well as the smoothie and Prosecco station. The home-baked and organic breads were delicious, and the live show cooking station for eggs added a lovely personal touch. Whether you’re an early bird or a brunch enthusiast, this breakfast will make you want to linger.
We’re convinced we gained a pound or two, and we have no regrets!

Spa Dreams and a Soothing Escape
Ortner’s is home to Bavaria’s largest hotel spa, and it’s as relaxing as it sounds. The natural thermal water from deep underground flows into six different pools – both indoor and outdoor – ranging in temperature from a cozy 32°C to a toasty 37°C. Altogether, there are 400 square meters of pure relaxation.

The thermal springs are open daily until 10 PM, which means we could enjoy late-night swims under the stars or wind down after dinner with a soak in the warm, mineral-rich water.

Add salt grottos, saunas, cozy nooks, and infrared cabins, and you have the perfect setting to unwind after a day on the golf course. If we have one regret, it’s that our stay wasn’t quite long enough to explore all the spa had to offer. But even in just a couple of days, we felt truly recharged.

Golfing in and Around Bad Füssing
Thermengolf Bad Füssing-Kirchham
Just a 7-minute drive from Ortner’s Resort, Thermengolf Bad Füssing was the perfect way to start our golf weekend – and our golfing year. The round began gently with shorter par 4s, allowing us to ease our way into the round and the season.
The layout favors players who draw the ball, since much of the trouble lies on the right. The course was in great shape for April, with lush fairways and some surprisingly thick rough that became the biggest hazard of the day.

James notched his first birdie of the year, and Menekse played pleasingly solid through the middle stretch. We both loved the 414-meter dogleg left ninth, the number one handicap hole. Another favorite was the 12th, a 376-meter par 4 framed by two tall trees that reminded James of a course he played growing up.
Incredibly, we finished the round in just 3 hours – the fastest pace we’ve experienced in Germany.

Afterward, slipping into the warm spa pools back at Ortner’s Resort was pure heaven.

Beckenbauer Golf Course at Bad Griesbach
Next up was the legendary Beckenbauer Course – just 15 minutes from Ortner’s Resort. Designed by Bernhard Langer and named after football icon Franz Beckenbauer (who’s known to play here), this course is as much about strategy as it is about scenery.
Water is a big feature here, coming into play on several holes, along with numerous cleverly placed bunkers, some of which you won’t see from the tee. The two par 3’s on the front nine were extremely demanding!

James had a dream start with back-to-back birdies – a personal first – before reality brought him back down. What stood out to both of us were the medium-length par 4’s: rolling fairways, and beautifully shaped greens (some hourglass, some Biarritz), which provided lots of variety for pin placements.
The condition of the course was excellent, and it’s a track that rewards smart play and accuracy over sheer distance.

Our Opinion
We absolutely loved our stay at Ortner’s Resort. The hotel felt warm and inviting, and the staff were genuinely lovely. Our room was modern and spacious, with a big balcony, a comfy sofa, and thoughtful touches like a spa bag with robes and flip-flops. We also appreciated the on-site e-bike rental, perfect for exploring the town.

Breakfast and dinner were both excellent, with lots of Bavarian specialties, local ingredients, and vegetarian options.
And as passionate golfers, we also really appreciated the variety of golf courses surrounding the resort- it made planning our golf weekend super easy and added lots of fun and flexibility to our stay.
Ortner’s Resort delivered on every front, and we can absolutely recommend this hotel for your next golf and travel adventure!
