Sometimes a golf getaway becomes much more than a few days on the course. Our stay at Boutique Hotel Fritsch am Berg in Lochau, Austria, turned into a fascinating journey of self-discovery, relaxation, and mental strength. Perched high above Lake Constance, this adults-only retreat combines luxurious accommodation, exceptional cuisine, wellness, and a unique approach to personal development.
We originally planned to play Golf Club Lindau Bad Schachen during our stay. Unfortunately, no tee times were available, giving us the perfect excuse to return another time. Instead, we focused on something golfers often neglect: the mental side of the game.
Over two days, Diana Sicher-Fritsch introduced us to a completely different perspective on golf performance, stress management, communication, and recovery. Combined with outstanding hospitality, a romantic wellness experience, and unforgettable dining, this became one of the most unique golf and wellness stays we have experienced.

Boutique Hotel Fritsch am Berg – A Peaceful Retreat Above Lake Constance
Located in Lochau, just minutes from Bregenz, Boutique Hotel Fritsch am Berg enjoys one of the most spectacular locations on Lake Constance. Surrounded by forests, rolling hills, and panoramic lake views, it feels worlds away from everyday life.
The hotel focuses on adults seeking relaxation, wellness, and personal well-being. Large windows throughout the property frame breathtaking views across Austria, Germany, and Switzerland. The atmosphere is peaceful, elegant, and refreshingly unpretentious.

One of the hotel’s unique features is its MentalSpa concept, developed around the OASE Health Model by Diana Sicher-Fritsch. Rather than focusing solely on traditional wellness treatments, the hotel combines physical wellbeing with mental health, resilience, stress reduction, and personal growth. This holistic approach creates an experience that goes far beyond a typical wellness hotel.

Staying in a Chalet Suite with Lake Constance Views

For our stay, we were fortunate to experience one of the hotel’s beautiful chalet suites.
The chalet perfectly blends alpine charm with modern luxury. Natural wood, warm colours, comfortable furnishings, and large windows create an inviting atmosphere from the moment you step inside. The highlight is undoubtedly the stunning view across Lake Constance, where every sunrise and sunset feels like a private show.

After long coaching sessions and relaxing wellness treatments, returning to our chalet felt like coming home. It provided the ideal setting to reflect on everything we learned during the day while enjoying complete quiet.

Mental Golf Coaching with Diana Sicher-Fritsch
The highlight of our stay was undoubtedly the Mental Golf Coaching with Diana Sicher-Fritsch.
Many golfers spend countless hours working on swing mechanics, but rarely invest the same effort in understanding how their mind influences performance. Diana’s coaching focuses on exactly that connection between body, mind, emotions, and performance. Her work is based on her OASE Mental Wellness concept, which combines psychology, coaching, biofeedback, resilience training, and health assessments.
Over two intensive days, we learned more about ourselves than we expected.

Personality and Communication Assessment
One of the first exercises involved analysing our personality and communication styles.
The assessment helped us understand how we naturally react under pressure, how we communicate with others, and how our behaviour changes in stressful situations. For golfers, this knowledge is incredibly valuable. Knowing your own tendencies can help explain why certain situations on the course trigger frustration, impatience, or self-doubt.
It was fascinating to see how differently we process information and how much easier communication becomes once you understand those differences.

Finding Balance and Listening to Your Inner Signals
A recurring theme throughout the coaching was learning to recognise and interpret the body’s signals.
Many of us operate on autopilot, ignoring stress, fatigue, and emotional overload until they become impossible to ignore. Diana showed us practical techniques to reconnect with our own needs and identify early warning signs before stress impacts our performance, health, or relationships.
Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA)
One of the health assessments we completed was a Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA).
BIA measures body composition by analysing the resistance of body tissues to a small electrical current. It provides insights into muscle mass, body fat percentage, hydration levels, and cellular health. Rather than focusing solely on weight, the test helps identify how effectively the body is functioning and recovering.

Heart Rate Variability (HRV) Measurement
Another fascinating assessment was the HRV measurement, also known as Heart Rate Variability analysis.
HRV measures the variation in time between individual heartbeats. Contrary to what many people think, a healthy heart does not beat like a metronome. Greater variability generally indicates a stronger ability to adapt to stress and recover efficiently.

The assessment provides valuable information about recovery capacity, stress levels, cardiovascular fitness, and overall resilience. It can reveal whether your body is in a state of recovery or chronic stress.

Eye Training and Visual Performance
Golf is a highly visual sport, making eye training particularly relevant.
We learned how visual processing affects focus, balance, depth perception, and concentration. The exercises highlighted how much stress can influence visual performance and how targeted training can improve awareness and reaction speed. Diana has developed specialised eye wellness programs that combine visual training with relaxation techniques.

Breathing Training and Biofeedback
Perhaps the most immediately useful part of the coaching involved breathing techniques and biofeedback training.
Using real-time measurements, we could see how our breathing directly influenced heart rate and nervous system activity. Learning to synchronise breathing patterns with heart rate helps activate the parasympathetic nervous system, which supports relaxation and recovery.
For golfers, this can be incredibly effective before a difficult tee shot, after a bad hole, or during competitive situations where emotions run high.

Personalised Interval Training for Heart Health
Based on the assessments, Diana also provided guidance for interval training.
The goal was not athletic performance alone but improving cardiovascular health, recovery capacity, and resilience. Structured interval training alternates periods of higher intensity with recovery phases, helping strengthen the heart while improving overall fitness and energy levels.

Want to Improve Your Mental Game?
Our coaching experience was only scratching the surface of what Boutique Hotel Fritsch am Berg offers golfers.
Golfers can choose from a variety of Mental Golf programs, ranging from short coaching sessions to fully customised retreats and multi-day experiences. The focus isn’t on changing your swing mechanics but on improving concentration, emotional control, resilience, recovery, and confidence on the course. The programs are based on Diana Sicher-Fritsch’s OASE Health Model, which combines mental strength, mindfulness, recovery, physical wellbeing, and stress management.
For golfers who struggle with nerves on the first tee, frustration after a bad shot, or staying focused throughout a round, there are dedicated Mental Golf packages such as “Ruhe am Abschlag” (Calm at the Tee) and “Fokus” (Focus). Guests can also book a personalised Mental Golf experience tailored to their individual goals and challenges.
The hotel also hosts specialised golf retreats, combining golf, wellness, health assessments, coaching, and relaxation. One example is the Ladies Golf Retreat, which combines rounds at Golf Club Lindau Bad Schachen, Golfclub Bodensee Weissensberg, wellness experiences, health talks, and culinary highlights.
After spending two days with Diana, we realised that mental golf is about far more than lowering your handicap. It’s about understanding how your mind and body react under pressure, learning how to recover more effectively, and ultimately enjoying the game more.
A Romantic Wellness Experience
After two days full of learning, analysis, and self-reflection, the hotel surprised us with one of the most memorable wellness experiences of our travels.
A beautifully prepared romantic bath awaited us, complete with soothing lavender essence, soft music, fresh fruit, chocolates, and a glass of sparkling wine.

It was the perfect opportunity to unwind and process everything we had learned throughout the days. Sometimes wellness isn’t about doing more. Sometimes it’s about slowing down and allowing yourself to simply be present.

Five-Course Fine Dining and an Impressive Gin Collection

The culinary experience at Boutique Hotel Fritsch am Berg deserves a special mention.
Each evening, we enjoyed a beautifully prepared five-course menu that showcased regional ingredients and creative presentation. Every course felt carefully designed, balancing flavour, texture, and seasonality.

The cherry on top of our stay was discovering the hotel’s impressive gin collection. While we’re certainly not gin experts, it was fun to sample a few different varieties as an aperitif before dinner. Sipping a carefully crafted gin on the terrace with views over Lake Constance felt like the perfect way to ease into another wonderful evening of fine dining.

Final Thoughts on Mental Golf Coaching at Boutique Hotel Fritsch am Berg
Mental Golf Coaching at Boutique Hotel Fritsch am Berg taught us something every golfer should remember: your biggest improvement may not come from changing your swing but from understanding yourself better.
The combination of luxury accommodation, exceptional food, wellness, personalised coaching, and the stunning Lake Constance setting creates an experience unlike any traditional golf holiday.
While we still need to return for our round at Golf Club Lindau Bad Schachen, we left with something far more valuable: practical tools to manage stress, improve focus, strengthen resilience, and enjoy both golf and life a little more.
And that alone made this trip unforgettable.

Golf Around Lake Constance

Although we were unable to play Golf Club Lindau Bad Schachen during this visit, the area surrounding Boutique Hotel Fritsch am Berg is a fantastic destination for golfers. There are many popular golf courses within easy driving distance.
The diversity of courses around Lake Constance means golfers can enjoy lakeside fairways, mountain panoramas, and beautifully maintained championship layouts all within a short drive.

Exploring Lake Constance Beyond the Fairways
While the Mental Golf Coaching was the main reason for our stay, we also took some time to explore the beautiful Lake Constance region surrounding Boutique Hotel Fritsch am Berg.

A Short Visit to Lindau Island

One afternoon, we crossed into Germany to visit Lindau Island, one of the most picturesque towns on Lake Constance. Unfortunately, our visit was cut short when a storm started rolling across the lake, but even in the changing weather, Lindau left a lasting impression.
We wandered along the waterfront, watching tourist boats glide across the lake while enjoying views of the Bavarian Lion and Lindau’s iconic lighthouse, which marks the entrance to the harbour. With the Alps rising in the distance and sailboats dotting the water, it was easy to understand why Lindau is one of the most popular destinations on Lake Constance.

Although we only spent about an hour there, it was enough to appreciate the town’s relaxed atmosphere, beautiful lakeside setting, and charming historic character. Sometimes, travel isn’t about ticking off attractions but simply taking in the views and enjoying the moment.
Visiting Bregenz by Public Transport
One thing we particularly appreciated was how easy it was to explore the region without a car.
Guests at Boutique Hotel Fritsch am Berg receive a complimentary digital guest card through the hotel’s app, which includes free use of public transportation throughout Vorarlberg. We decided to take advantage of this and hopped on the bus from the hotel down to Lochau before making a quick connection to Bregenz.
The journey itself was worth it for the views alone. As the bus wound its way down the hillside, we were treated to stunning panoramas of Lake Constance stretching far into Germany and Switzerland.

Before long, we arrived in Bregenz, the capital of Vorarlberg and one of Austria’s most charming lakeside towns.
We spent the afternoon wandering through the historic centre, admiring the colourful buildings, traditional Austrian architecture, and inviting cafés that line the streets. The old town has a relaxed elegance that encourages you to slow down and simply enjoy being there.

Eventually, we found ourselves back along the waterfront, strolling beside Lake Constance and reflecting on everything we had learned during the previous two days. It felt like the perfect place to process the insights from our coaching sessions while enjoying the fresh lake air.

The Famous Bregenz Floating Stage
Of course, no visit to Bregenz would be complete without seeing the famous floating stage on Lake Constance.
The Seebühne, as it is known locally, is home to the world-renowned Bregenz Festival, which has been attracting visitors from around the globe since 1946. Every summer, the stage is transformed into a spectacular open-air theatre set directly on the water, creating one of the most unique performance venues in the world.
Even without a performance taking place, standing in front of the enormous stage structure is impressive. Looking out across the lake, it’s easy to imagine why hundreds of thousands of visitors travel to Bregenz each year to experience a production here.
For us, it was the perfect way to end our exploration of the region before returning to the peace and tranquillity of Boutique Hotel Fritsch am Berg.
