Why Every Golfer Needs a Thermal Spa Day in Bavaria

Ortners Resort in Bad Griesbach

A thermal spa day in Bavaria wasn’t something we had actively searched for in the past. Like many golfers, we often focused on finding the next great course rather than thinking about recovery afterward. That changed when we discovered Ortner’s Resort in Bad Füssing.

After visiting last year, we couldn’t resist returning. This time, however, our focus wasn’t just on golf. We wanted to experience the other side of a golf holiday: recovery, wellness, and relaxation. After all, if you’ve ever slipped into warm thermal water after playing 18 holes, you’ll know exactly why golfers should pay more attention to taking care of their bodies.

Our Stay at Ortners Resort

A Day on the Golf Course in Bavaria

Porsche Course at Quellness Resort

Our golf day began at the Porsche Golf Course at Quellness Golf Resort, one of the most enjoyable courses we have played in Bavaria.

One of the things we love most about golfing in Bavaria is the scenery. Rolling green landscapes, peaceful countryside views, and fresh air create an atmosphere that feels completely different from many urban golf destinations. The course itself was in excellent condition, with beautifully maintained fairways and greens that rewarded good shots while still providing plenty of challenge.

Playing together is one of our favourite parts of golf travel. Sharing good shots, laughing about the occasional bad ones, and spending several hours outdoors make every round memorable.

By the time we finished our round, we felt that satisfying combination of accomplishment and tiredness that every golfer knows. Fortunately, we knew exactly what was waiting for us back at Ortner’s Resort.

Why Recovery Matters for Golfers

As we often travel from one destination to the next, we rarely give ourselves enough time to properly recover. More often than not, we would finish a round, jump back into the van, and head off to our next destination.

But after years of playing golf around the world, we’ve learned that recovery deserves just as much attention as the round itself.

A typical golf round can involve walking eight to ten kilometres. But even with a cart you can add (unfortunately) countless swings, uneven terrain, and several hours on your feet, and it’s easy to understand why backs, shoulders, and legs can feel sore afterwards.

That’s why we have started appreciating destinations that allow us to combine activity with relaxation. Rather than immediately moving on, we now enjoy giving our bodies the opportunity to recover properly. And honestly, it has completely changed how refreshed we feel the next day.

For golfers looking to get the most out of their holiday, wellness shouldn’t be a luxury. But part of taking care of their golf body.

Relaxing in the Thermal Pools

One of the highlights of returning to Ortner’s Resort was spending time in the thermal pools.

Bad Füssing is famous throughout Germany for its healing thermal springs, and Ortner’s Resort offers direct access to this naturally warm thermal water. After a day on the golf course, it felt like exactly what our bodies needed.

As soon as we slipped into the warm water, the tension from our shoulders and legs seemed to disappear. The gentle warmth encourages muscles to relax while creating an incredible sense of calm.

The resort features both indoor and outdoor thermal pools, allowing guests to enjoy the water regardless of the season. We especially loved the underwater massage loungers and jet stations throughout the pools, where we could stretch out and enjoy soothing massages for our neck, shoulders, arms, and legs, and forget about the world for a while.

What surprised us most was how much better we felt afterward. The stiffness from the golf course quickly faded, and instead of feeling exhausted, we felt completely rejuvenated.

It’s easy to understand why so many guests return year after year, specifically for the thermal wellness experience.

Ortner’s Signature Treatment: Pure Relaxation

Feeling like newborn at Ortners Resort

While the thermal pools alone would have been enough to help us unwind, we decided to take our wellness experience one step further with “Ortner’s Signature Treatment”.

The experience started with a refreshing glass of homemade elderflower-infused water while soaking our tired feet in a warm herbal foot bath. Sitting back, sipping our drink, and letting the fragrant herbs work their magic was the perfect way to slow down and leave the golf course behind us.

From there, we were treated to a luxurious body peeling using sea salt and nourishing oils. The combination felt absolutely heavenly. The gentle exfoliation left our skin feeling incredibly soft, while the soothing oils and expert massage helped release every bit of tension we had built up during our round of golf. After spending hours on the golf course, it was exactly what our bodies needed.

Following the treatment, we made our way to the relaxation room, where floor-to-ceiling windows offered beautiful views of the surrounding greenery. Wrapped in that blissful post-spa feeling, we enjoyed a cup of tea sweetened with locally produced honey and simply took in the peaceful atmosphere.

As if that wasn’t enough, we were also served a traditional regional snack consisting of fresh bread topped with butter and chives. Simple, authentic, and delicious.

Before leaving, we received a small elderflower and lavender sachet to take home with us – a thoughtful reminder of an afternoon dedicated entirely to relaxation and wellbeing.

This treatment perfectly captured what we love most about Ortner’s Resort: slowing down, taking care of yourself, and enjoying the simple pleasures that make a holiday truly memorable.

Wellness Treatments for Every Need

While Ortner’s Signature Treatment was undoubtedly a highlight of our stay, it’s just one of many wellness experiences available. Guests can also choose from a wide range of massages, beauty treatments, wellness packages, physiotherapy, osteopathy, and health-focused therapies. Whether you’re recovering after a day on the golf course or simply looking to unwind, there is no shortage of ways to treat yourself.

A Suite Designed for Relaxation

One thing we quickly realised during this stay is that wellness doesn’t stop when you leave the spa. We were fortunate to stay in one of Ortner’s beautiful suites, and it became an important part of our overall relaxation experience.

The combination of elegant design, traditional Bavarian charm, comfortable furnishings, and a peaceful atmosphere made it easy to slow down and truly unwind. After a morning on the golf course and an afternoon in the spa, returning to such a welcoming suite felt like part of the wellness journey itself.

The Perfect Golf and Spa Combination

The more we travel, the more we appreciate destinations that combine multiple experiences in one location.

At Ortner’s Resort, the combination feels effortless. Spend the morning walking beautiful Bavarian fairways. Return for an afternoon in the thermal pools. Enjoy a relaxing spa treatment. Finish the day with a healthy dinner and a good night’s sleep.

It’s a formula that works incredibly well.

Golfers benefit from improved recovery. Wellness travellers enjoy outstanding spa facilities. Couples can combine active and relaxing experiences. And anyone looking for a balanced holiday can enjoy the best of both worlds.

Is This Bavarian Golf and Spa Retreat Worth It?

The fact that we returned for a second visit probably answers that question.

What brought us back wasn’t just the golf. Bavaria offers many excellent golf courses. What makes this experience special is the balance between great golf and genuine relaxation.

Combining golf with thermal wellness allowed us to enjoy our rounds even more while feeling better afterwards. The thermal pools, professional spa treatments, and peaceful atmosphere created a level of recovery that we rarely experience while traveling.

For golfers looking for more than just another golf trip, this combination is hard to beat.

Whether you’re planning a golf holiday in Bavaria, searching for thermal pools in Germany, or simply looking for a wellness escape that includes fun and challenging golf, Ortner’s Resort offers a fantastic mix of activity, recovery, and relaxation.

And after experiencing it twice, we can confidently say that we’ll gladly return again.
